Sorry I haven't posted in a while; life has been kicking my ass all over the place the past couple weeks.
So! While I was at the Meijer in Saginaw for work, I happened to spy the Sally Hansen "Liquid Mani-A" Color Foil Polish display, and since I had lamented earlier to myself how I wish there were more chrome polishes in more colors than typical metal colors, it seemed as if Sally had heard me and responded in kind.

| Not a bad shot for someone who took two photography classes |
I ended up picking up all but 3 of the collection. I didn't grab Sterling Silver (a frosty, milky... silver) because I already have Essie No Place Like Chrome and OPI Push and Shove, nor did I grab Yellow Gold because I figured it would be similar to Essie Good As Gold which looks awful on me (but actually it's an electric yellow, so still not my taste). I also didn't pick up Liquid Gold, even though it reminds me of the Velveeta Cheese campaign, because again, I have Good as Gold and Essie Penny Talk. It looked to be closer to Penny Talk in the bottle, so I couldn't justify it.
So what I do have:
 |
| They were Buy One Get One 50% Off, so ignore that CSM |
From Left to Right
Purple Alloy, Leaden Lilac, Pink Platinum, Minted Metal, Rose Copper, Cobalt Chrome, and Titanium Flush (I think I have the right order).
The bottle says to not use a base coat or a top coat for this color. The base coat portion is true; I tried to fight the man and use OPI Nail Envy as a base anyway, and the paint ended up drying slower, so much so that when I tried to apply a second coat, it dragged itself up and I couldn't get it to lay down flat.
This actually really irritated me, and I thought it was just how the polishes would be, so I debated taking them back for a few days.
Then I decided to go back in and re-swatch and see what happened.

| Titanium Flush, one coat |
With the first coat, the color looks very desaturated compared to how strong it is in the bottle. So again, I had my misgivings. Like, the silvery particles that give that chrome effect wash out the bright color pretty badly.
Two coats, Titanium Flush
But it gets a lot better after the second coat. Titanium Flush, while a good pink, is on the cooler side, so you won't feel like you're rocking a total Barbie combination with this one.
 |
| Minted Metal |
For some reason, this one is blue as hell in the bottle, but not when you apply it. Science???
 |
| Thumb is Leaden Lilac, Index Purple Alloy, Middle Cobalt Chrome, Ring Minted Metal (see what I mean?) Pinky is Pink Platinum, much lighter than Titanium Flush. One coat. |
You can see here how pale and soft the colors are. They can also be a little streaky.
 |
| Rose Copper on the thumb. Not very coppery, is it? |
 |
| Two coats |
Here you can really see the difference, especially with Purple Alloy and Cobalt Chrome. And these colors are awesome! They pop beautifully.
Here, Rose Copper has definitely picked up a more specific golden color. You can also tell I am getting better at painting my right hand, but not my left, despite being right-handed. What kind of world is this?
So yeah, it's a collection I enjoy muchly. I think it'll provide lots of great looks for summer; and I did test a quick coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Flash top coat over one of my thumbnails, and it didn't affect the look at all, so I'd say you can probably get away with one. They're retailing for 6.99 and currently I've only seen them at Meijer (a grocery store in the Midwest) but hopefully they'll come to other locations soon!
Great comparison shots! After seeing this I'm definitely looking forward to picking up a few! I love this metallic look!
