Besides my nails, I'm a rather sloppy person. I prefer jeans, shirts, and tennis shoes to being trendy, mostly because I'm lazy and getting into that weird age where my only options are whatever early 20-somethings are wearing (skinny jeans and oversized off-the-shoulder sweatshirts, right?), and shapeless sweater/tank top combos in colors like "bahama peach" and "fuck it fuchsia".
But, I have what I like to consider a good luck shopping charm.
It doesn't work all the time, of course, and I'm probably making it up and using confirmation bias. But once in a while, I'll get a bug to go shopping, and I usually get lucky.
Here's what I mean:
I went to TJ Maxx because I had a $10 certificate and I was flush from working extra, and I wanted to do some damage. Financially. I'd heard whispers on the wind of TJ Maxx being a good source of nail polish, and remembered the couple times I'd checked, I found nothing but sad grey Essie polish and Halloween Orange some-other-brand-I-don't-care-about. But, I figured I would pick up some makeup or something, and I went anyway, found some nice lip stains and a cute Betsey Johnson makeup travel bag, and headed to checkout.
They happened to have an endcap display at checkout with two-packs (not Tupacs) of OPI.
In one of those two-packs was OPI's "Just Spotted the Lizard".
For those of you uninitiated, this color was a limited release to promote a movie about Tobey Maguire crying over Kirsten Dunst while flying around in spandex or something. For some reason, superheroes = polish, and OPI released this absolute gem of a chameleon polish. It's also supposedly a dupe for Chanel's "Peridot". I have since found that Sally Hansen Lustre Shine "Plume" makes an okay, but nowhere near equivalent, dupe as well. I also once freaked out a friend (Hi Brenda!) by squealing when she came over wearing it.
So anyway, two-packs. They had JStL in two-packs along with a god-awful olive, which is probably the only way they were selling any of that damn olive, and I was like "okay well how easy are these to switch out?"
Turns out, incredibly easy, but I also didn't know if that was even technically okay to do, so I didn't do it. I promise you I didn't.
I got the pink and silver glitter together in one two-pack ("I love Boys-nberry" and "Silver Sparkle", respectively), and decided to dig a little further to see if I could find any better combos, but if not, I was determined to get JStL, no matter what.
THANKFULLY, there was a single package of it paired with that gorgeous blue, supposedly from the same movie-promo, called "Into the Night", and I snapped up that pack like mad. 7.99 each, for two OPIs, one of them an absolutely fabulous color I'd been looking for!
It was a good day.
Further evidence of this shopping charm, my haul from yesterday:
The OPIs were half off, and the rest were at least 75% off. Always trust your gut instinct (when it says to go somewhere).
And yeah, my desk is messy. I don't clean my cuticles, what the hell makes you think I'm going to tidy my desk? (Actually I have since tidied it since I took this picture, because I was running out of room).
