Sometimes I wonder if I don't have a problem
I thought to myself, "you know, surely having over 200 polishes is a bad plan. We both know you're not going to be able to wear a lot of those out until they dry up."
But then I read about a girl on reddit who has over 1600 polishes so I was kind of like "fffff...fuck it."
So.
Yesterday was my niece's first birthday party! The theme was "butterflies". I've seen the typical "butterfly" manicure a lot of times, but I don't think I'm quite ambidextrous enough to pull off the usual look. I saw this variation on it online and I loved it; it consists of water marbling (something I have been wanting to practice) and a gradient background. I also added a coat of China Glaze's "Fairy Dust" over the gradient before using the water marble. It's probably one of my top polish purchases, I just love how it adds a rainbow shimmer to everything! To get that water marble, you alternate a clear coat and an opaque black; I used OPI's top coat (my Sally Hansens were drying too fast) and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear blah blah in Black Out. I'd love to try this more to replicate different butterfly wings. One tip I'll give for this, though; do at least 3 bands of black, and end on a top coat. The right hand looks a little "dingy" because of the way the black polish spreads over the water, while the left hand still retains a nice, bright pop to the gradient.
This was today's haul from Ulta. I was crazy-stoked about picking up the one on the far right- real 18k gold and silver flecks! Every time I think of it though, I immediately go to "Real f**king diamonds!" from Arrested Development. It's not really a problem, of course, but then it makes me want to watch Arrested Development again and I'm kind of in the middle of rewatching 30 Rock for the third time so...
