DIY Peel-Off Glitter Base Tutorial and Trial

So OPI has released a Glitter Off peelable base coat this year, which for those of us who love glitter but hate cleanup, seemed like a godsend.

Until someone read the ingredients and saw it was just PVA (polyvinyl acetate, AKA white craft glue) and water. NINE DOLLARS.

Here's what you'll need:

PVA (school glue)

A clean, empty polish bottle. I went to Big Lots and picked up a pretty ugly Sinful Colors for $1

1. Put the glue in the bottle

DONE

Easiest tutorial on the planet.

My thumb here has a coat that has dried; it's probably not too evident in the picture, but your nails will take on a nice matte finish.

You paint a thin coat on your nail (I recommend doing this over any nourishing basecoats, if you're laying one of those down) and let it dry. OPI's might have faster dry time, for all I know, but this really didn't take too long. Besides, I'm sure it'll speed up if you put it under a nail fan.

Okay I take that back, just let it air dry. It gets a weird uneven texture if you put it under the fan.

I wanted a super dense glitter, so I decided to go with OPI Gwen Stefani "In True Stefani Fashion". I fucking love silver glitter you guys.

A better shot of how matte the nails are when the glue dries. MATTE TOP COAT?

I did one coat on my middle finger, and two coats on my index. On my thumb is Wet N Wild Megalast "I Saw a Comet". They have very similar brushes to OPI, only the bristle part is a lot fluffier? So it's good because it picks up more, but sometimes it picks up too much.

Okay I definitely have to do something with that Wet N Wild because it is sick.

Let it dry...

and...

awesome!

Now to test the Gwen...

Same results!

So yeah, this is way easier than cotton balls and tinfoil, and way cheaper than a base from OPI or Etude house. Three freakin' dollars, MAX.
